Zulu Love Letters are African Beaded messages given by Zulu maidens to their lovers as symbols of their love and affection, each bead colour conveys a different message. Zulu Love Letters can be custom made in any colour, they can also be supplied on a card showing the Zulu Love Letter verse, this card can also be customized to incorporate company log's etc.

Zulu hats or 'Isicholos' in Zulu were traditionally worn only by the married Zulu woman of South Africa during religious and cultural ceremonies, however more and more young woman of all cultures are wearing these Isicholos as a fashion statement. Zulu hats come in every colour of the rainbow with varying amounts of detail, they are also available in different sizes. Zulu Hats have become a symbol of the Zulu women's national identity and showcase their creative expression.

African Telephone wire baskets or 'Mbenge' in Zulu, handmade using age-old grass weaving techniques were first developed by night-shift security guards who passed the time weaving recycled telephone wire onto their security sticks. These skills were then transferred to the ornately designed telephone wire baskets of today.

African Masks are crafted from natural materials including wood, cloth, fibre, clay, copper and typically painted or stained with vegetable dyes. Traditionally African masks are used during ceremonies, dancing and ritual prepare men and woman for the battles of life, occupy their leisure or give expression to different forms of religious belief.

African Beaded Statues are handmade from Ebony wood with intricate beadwork trim, free-standing on a small wood base. Supplied as a set of male and female, when closely examined the female statue is holding a water carrier on her head in the traditional method used by most rural Africans to carry heavy loads over long distances. Besides their aesthetic ornamental beauty, these beaded statues have been widely used in the Corporate Industry as table place card holders, being free-standing they are ideally suited to this function, the recipient also gets a super gift at the end of the event.

OSTRICH EGGS.

Decoupage or "painted" Ostrich eggs in Big Five, Bushman, wildlife or a host of other African designs, we also personalise these eggs to include your company logo or even add an image of your own choice. We offer different stands which must be ordered separately - all ostrich eggs are supplied in a cardboard box. The decoupage process is labour-intensive and requires numerous steps to achieve the desired result, from washing and painting the egg, to painstakingly cutting out the selected image and glueing it on, then applying numerous coats of varnish to seal and finish the process.

Earth Africa stocks a range of authentic African curios and carvings sourced from craft projects all over Africa including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Kenya.  We are fortunate to have people from different African cultures joining forces to create fresh innovative ideas. Visitors from abroad continue to be amazed at the originality of these carvings and at most of our exiting airports one will invariably see a wooden giraffe head popping out of a visitors luggage. Wood carvings of The Big Five, elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and rhino are also perennial favourites.

Madiba shirts were first popularized by Nelson Mandela and have since become synonymous with South African men's dress code, our African shirts come in rich vibrant colours with intricate neck detail. Leopard print vests and the uMblaselo (waistcoat and trouser set originally made from patched clothing) are also unique to South Africa. During ceremonies and events, animal hide headpieces usually handmade from springbok hide are also a favourite, this tradition harks back to the bygone era of King Shaka and his legendary Zulu warriors.

With the emergence of the New South Africa in the early nineties, rural woman flocked to the cities seeking employment, discarding their Traditional African clothing they, in turn, embraced the modern Western dress code and for many years their traditions were in decline. Fortunately, there has been a revival in African Traditional clothing which has once again become popular and fashionable, not only in South Africa but the world over, one only has to look at mega online stores like ETSY for evidence of this.
